On Friday 24th of April from 17:27 until 17:41 (14 minutes), you may have experienced a loss in server connectivity to your websites.
We have been informed by our providers that the reason for the outage was due to a DDoS attack (Distributed Denial of Service attack). A DDoS attack is where a large amount of traffic is targeted at a specific server, with the intent to take it offline or cause significant disruption.
The attack on Friday was against a specific server elsewhere on the network that was not our own. However, the size of the attack prompted the provider’s firewall to act defensively by blocking any and all traffic attempting to access the server resulting in the above outage.
Whilst this attack was significant, no damage was done and we can assure you that an attack like this is rare, this being the first in six years since we added the new DDoS protection system. We also want to assure you that every care was taken at the time and will continue to be to ensure the safety of your data.
We thank you for your patience and understanding.
If you have any further questions, please get in touch.
